John Turturro reprises his character, ‘Jesus Quintana’, in a spin-off of The Big Lebowski (1998) in ‘The Jesus Rolls’ (2019). Whilst the film doesn’t and won’t ever have the stature of The Big Lebowski, and gets almost half the score on IMDB, it’s definitely got a bundle of laughs in it, and deserves a much higher score than the measly 4.6 on IMDB.
Some of the scenes may cross the line for some and titillate others, all depends on your kind of humour. The film bearly ambles along at times but is certainly kept alive by Turturro, Bobby Cannavale and the appearance of a number of big names playing supporting roles: my favourite French actress Audrey Tautou (Amélie, Priceless), and other stars include Jon Hamm (Mad Men), superb Susan Sarandon, the great Christopher Walken. It’s OK if you’re not expecting anything high-brow, and like a dollop of sleazy but fun humour on a Friday night with your takeaway curry and Tiger beer. It’ll do!
